Hi I’m just checking in……..

The open line to the death of your job application. After you go through the interview process it is best to leave it a lone. Being persistence is not always the best way to be when career hunting. Think about it like this, you are interviewing many candidates for a job or career & you are working on making that final choice. The phone rings & the job seeker’s first words to you are “Hi I’m just checking in….” Yes they have reminded you their resume is on your desk but now the message is “your wasting my time & I don’t even know you enough to be friends”. Not a good move on their part. A phone call should only be made when it requires action that dose not waste either persons time. Time is money as it is always said.

Your best bet is to ask them at the end of your interviews is if you should contact them back & when. Listen to what they say next, if they say we will call you then leave it a lone. If they say if we don’t call you in a week call them back then do just that. Never assume that it is o.k. just to call and say Hi I’m just checking in because then you are checking out. Short sweet to the point!
